Lovely lacquered wood and brass tray is intricately inlaid with several different colored pieces of wood arranged into a flower and leaf bouquet in the middle and surrounded by vine and leaf scrolling. This process is generally known as Marquetry. There is a brass filigree raised edge which surrounds the inlay and attaches to two brass handles. The original sticker on the bottom states that the tray was “Made in Italy”
The tray is in very nice condition. All the parts are well attached and the tiny nails are firmly in place. As might be expected of a vintage piece, there are some surface scratches and brass oxidation with one scratch on the front being a little more prominent, but it still shows beautifully. It is a delightful piece of craftmanship and would be lovely propped on a mantle, shelf or we even think it could be hung up somehow. It can also be used as intended – as a pretty serving tray or in a vintage powder room or as a vanity tray on a dresser top.
