Very charming vintage black cast iron double match holder. Both pretty and functional, this piece would serve in the early days to keep matches dry and readily available. It has nice scrolled detail on the top where it hangs on a wall and the hinged flap of the bottom section features a winged cherub kissing Venus. The remainder is decorated with its own detail. The back has raised lettering that reads "2-4 Venus & Cupid Match Holder".
There is a V-shaped piece on the top in which to lay matches and an additional section on the bottom with a hinged lid. We believe this may have been used for the spent matches.
This lovely piece is heavy and in good condition with some surface wear and small rust consistent with age and use. It could be hung on a nail or a screw using the hole at the top.
It would make a beautiful addition to a vintage home - perfect in a kitchen or near a fireplace.
Measurements: 6 1/4 inches tall 3 3/4 inches wide It protrudes from the wall 2 inches
*Vintage pieces will show signs of wear due to their use and age. They are not perfect but we hope you will enjoy their lovely character
