Antique Balance Scale with Copper Pan
Antique Balance Scale with Copper Pan
Unique antique scale from the early 1900s. This hanging scale is often known as a steelyard Roman scale, made of sturdy metal (it could be brass or bronze), it has a hanging hook along with two other hooks, three chains attached to a copper pan which appears to be handmade because of the rolled edges and finger joints around the bottom - the pan reads "B II" on the underside. There is a separate single weight which seems to work as the counter balance. There are markings on the long arm of the scale.
It's a great piece of history and antique decor. All the parts are intact and while we can't say for sure just how it works, it's a very interesting piece. Wonderful for restaurant, hearth or kitchen decor.
Measurements:
Approximately 28 inches tall in the hanging position
Copper pan is 8 1/4 inches wide
*Antique pieces will show natural signs of wear due to their use and age. They are not perfect but we hope you will enjoy their lovely character.
