This beautiful solid oak antique apothecary cabinet, which might also be known as a spool cabinet, a spice cabinet or a watchmaker parts cabinet is a lovely example of a countertop display. It has its original porcelain knobs and all the drawers work well. Each drawer has nice finger joints and some have dividers. It is missing two drawers but those openings could act as small shelves.
It is a very heavy, substantial and charming piece and would add that wonderful antique character along with wonderful storage for sewing, office supplies, jewelry, kitchen spices or other small items to any home. Also great to use as a very unique coffee bar.
There are two long drawers on the top and bottom and eight smaller drawers. The 2 long drawers measure 17 ¼ inches long by 2 inches high. The 8 small drawers measure 3 ¼ inches long by 1 ¾ inches high. The top drawer is lined with a dainty green paper which could easily be switched out if one wished.
The wood has great patina and is in very nice condition and is ready to use as is. There are some splits in the sides but the cabinet is still structurally sound. All the joints are tight and the most wear shows along the top back edge. One side of the back has a chunk of wood missing which we’ve tried to capture in the photos.
